Video: Tens of thousands of South Sudanese suffering from famine receive WFP aid
Tens of thousands of people received emergency food supplies from the UN’s World Food Programme, in Thonyor, Leer County, as seen in footage released on Monday.
Some 4.9 million people, or 40 percent of South Sudan’s population, require urgent humanitarian aid.
More than a quarter of a million children there are severely malnourished and at risk of dying.
Failed rains in the Horn of Africa region and an ongoing civil war in the country has contributed to the famine.
