Terrorists to Leave Outskirts of Homs Soon

15 March 2017 9:19

Terrorists that have refused to lay down arms and join peace with the government will start evacuating al-Wa’er settlement soon, Governor General of Homs province Talal Barazi said on Tuesday.

Barazi said that evacuation of the militants, who have turned down the government’s peace and amnesty offer, will take place in several phases starting on March 18th and under the monitoring of police forces and Red Cross.

He further said that evacuation operation of the militants and their family members to Northern Syria will take 6 to 8 weeks, adding 500 militants and their family members will leave al-Wa’er in each phase of evacuation.

Homs is of strategic importance to the Syrian army and government both as a city and a province as it connects Northern provinces to the South and army’s control over Homs will fully close off the most important communication lines between the terrorists in Southern Syria and their comrades in Northern part of the country.

Local sources said on Sunday that based on an agreement inked by representatives of the militants and the army, the terrorists that turned down the peace agreement would leave al-Wa’er along with their family members to be relocated to militant-held regions in Idlib or to the Northern parts of Homs province.

The sources added that the agreement was struck under Russian monitoring.

They added that the militants that intended to join the peace agreement with the Syrian government should hand over their weapons to relevant officials to apply for government amnesty.

The total number of the terrorists in al-Wa’er stands at 1,500-2,000.
