Syrian Army resumes offensive to lift siege on Deir Ezzor
The Syrian Army (SA) resumed their offensive in the eastern countryside of Palmyra, Wednesday, targeting the Islamic State’s defenses along the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway.
Backed by heavy airstrikes from the Syrian and Russian air forces, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Corps and Tiger Forces stormed the Islamic State’s positions near the ‘Arak Gas Fields, inflicting heavy damage on the terrorist group’s defenses.
Based on footage released from the area, the Syrian Arab Army has managed to reach the outskirts of the ‘Arak Gas Fields, marking the first time since this time last year that they have reached this area in eastern Palmyra.
The liberation of the ‘Arak Gas Fields is paramount in eventually lifting the two year long siege on Deir Ezzor, as this site is located along the highway to the provincial capital.
