The Islamic State’s (ISIL) large-scale offensive in the eastern countryside of Hama has finally ended after more than 12 hours of nonstop fighting with the Syrian government forces.
ISIL began the offensive by storming the National Defense Forces’ (NDF) positions at the villages of Al-Sabbourah, ‘Aqarib Al-Safi, and Al-Maboujah.
ISIL seized four points and entered ‘Aqarib Al-Safi, where they would wreck havoc on the villagers, killing at least nine people and wounding 14 others.
Once government reinforcements poured into the area, the National Defense Forces were able to recover all of the points they lost to the ISIL militants earlier in the day.
According to a military source in Salamiyah, the National Defense Forces killed at least 20 ISIL terrorists, today, while also destroying two armored vehicles fitted with 23mm anti-aircraft machine guns.
Today’s offensive by the Islamic State was the largest assault launched by the aforementioned terrorist group in this region of the Hama Governorate this year.
