Drone footage shows the Syrian Army’s advance near Deir Ezzor
Drone footage showed smoke rising above the Al-Waer area of the Homs countryside as the Syrian Arab Army made gains against so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) in the push towards Deir Azzor.
The forces captured Ard Al-Washash, Al-Waer Dam, and Al-Waer Canyon region, leaving them some 120 km (74.5 miles) from the besieged city of Deir Ezzor.
The Syrian Arab Army began this massive push to the Deir Ezzor Governorate earlier this month, following the capture of Arak and T-3 Pumping Station.
In the coming weeks, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Legion will launch an imperative assault on the town of Sukhnah, which is the last Islamic State stronghold before the Deir Ezzor Governorate border.
