The Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard shot down a surveillance drone on Wednesday while it was monitoring government troops in the embattled Jobar neighborhood, an eastern suburb of Damascus which has been largely razed to the ground following five years of ongoing skirmishes.
According to a military source close to Al-Masdar News, the drone was downed by SAA units who utilized a 23 mm anti-aircraft twin-barreled gun. He added that the drone belonged to Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), a jihadist group with loose ties to Al-Qaeda.

Remarkably, the drone was camouflaged with blue paint to make it less visible in broad daylight. However, SAA contingents remain on high-alert as clashes have intensified over the past week with government troops trying to dislodge HTS insurgents once and for all.
In related news, HTS ally Failaq Al-Rahman destroyed a SAA tank in the Jobar neighborhood on Wednesday and filmed the ordeal on camera from afar.
