More Militants in Idlib quit war , leave weapons to government

5 July 2017 15:30

Up to 11 rebel fighters who were active in the northwestern province of Idlib have surrendered their weapons to the Syrian authorities and left the rebel bastion to government-controlled city of Hama.

Informed sources reported that the rebel fighters – who belong to FSA-affiliated factions –  first contacted the Russian Center for Reconciliation which is responsible for facilitating the processes for all individuals and groups willing to reconcile with the Syrian government.

The same sources cited the surrendered rebels as saying that there are considerable numbers of fighters who are willing to lay down their weapons and have their status settled but they are afraid of the ruling jihadi group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.

“The HTS won’t think twice before shoot dead any fighter willing to reconcile with the government,” one of the surrendered militants said.
