Lebanese President slams closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israel
The Lebanese President Michel ‘Aoun issued a cable on Saturday that slammed the Israeli authorities for closing the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
“The repeated Israeli attacks on the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque should be denounced and fall within the framework of an Israeli plan to target the holy sites in an attempt to change the geography and demography of Jerusalem.”
“We call for a Pan-Arab movement that is willing to oblige Israel not to close the Mosque to worshipers and to respect the international laws, charters and human rights,” President ‘Aoun added.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque was closed for 48 hours this weekend after three Palestinians opened fire on Israeli police officers near the gates of this holy site.
