Full map of battle for central Syria
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is rapidly advancing in the Al-Raqqa and Homs governorates, capturing large areas once occupied by the so-called Islamic State (ISIL) in central Syria.
While the battle has been far from easy, the Syrian Arab Army has managed to achieve several breakthroughs, which include the liberation of eight oil fields in the Al-Raqqa Governorate.
However, despite the success, the battle to defeat the Islamic State in central Syria is far from over, as the Syrian Army will now begin their assault on the terrorist group’s strongholds.
The towns of ‘Uqayrbat in eastern Hama and Al-Sukhnah in eastern Homs are not only the key to central Syria, but they are also the Islamic State’s last strongholds in this part of the country.
If these towns are lost to the Syrian Arab Army in the coming months, the Islamic State will be forced to completely withdraw to the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.
