Palestinians close UNRWA headquarters in Gaza in protest at the siege

20 July 2017 9:25

Dozens of Palestinian refugees on Wednesday closed the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza. The closure aimed at protesting UNRWA’s failure to abide by its duties with regards to the current crises in Gaza that resulted from the continuation of the decade-long Israeli siege on the coastal enclave.

According to Quds Press, the refugees erected a sit-in tent and held a press conference in front of UNRWA’s headquarters in Gaza. The protesters also closed the main gate and demanded the international organization to shoulder its responsibility for offering a decent life to Palestinian refugees.

Head of Popular Committees for Refugees in Gaza’s refugee camps, Muin Abu Okel, charged UNRWA of exerting no efforts in order to lift the siege. He asked the UN organization to supply 2 million Palestinians living in the blockaded coastal enclave with electricity and water services.
