President Rouhani: Iran to Give Proper Response to New US Sanctions
“We are happy that our partners in the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany) have so far stood powerfully to safeguard the nuclear deal and the Americans as always entered the scene equivocally but certainly, if the Americans want to impose sanctions against us under any title and pretext, the great Iranian nation will give a proper response to them and the parliament will have reciprocal approvals against the Congress approvals,” Rouhani said, addressing a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.
Stressing that Iran will stand against the US violation of the nuclear deal, he underlined that Iran is, meantime, vigilant to use the existing atmosphere to its benefit.
His remarks came as the US slapped new economic sanctions against Iran on Tuesday over its ballistic missile program, claiming that Tehran’s “malign activities” in the Middle East undercut any “positive contributions” coming from the 2015 Iran nuclear accord.
The measures signaled that the administration of President Donald Trump was seeking to put more pressure on Iran while keeping in place an agreement between Tehran and six world powers to curb its nuclear program in return for lifting international oil and financial sanctions.
The US government said it was targeting 18 entities and people for supporting what it claimed as “illicit Iranian actors or transnational criminal activity.”
