Syrian Army Inches Closer to Winning ISIL’s Most Important Base in Eastern Homs

The Syrian army backed up by the country’s air force continued its advances against ISIL deep into Badiyeh (desert) region in Eastern Homs, taking control over more strategic areas in the region that is seen as the gate to Deir Ezzur.

The army troops seized control of key regions and hilltops Southwest of the city of Al-Sukhnah after clashes with the ISIL terrorists near Palmyra.

Meantime, a military source confirmed that the Syrian army’s command has prepared for the final battle to liberate al-Sukhna dispatching massive forces and military equipment to the battle zones in Badiyeh.

The source also said that the Syrian army has fortified its military positions in the region.

Meantime, the Syrian air force pounded ISIL targets deep inside al-Sukhnah and its surrounding areas as well as in Badiyeh Humeimeh in the Eastern part of Homs province, killing several terrorists and destroying their military equipment and vehicles.

In a relevant development on Wednesday, the Syrian army troops fortified their positions in areas around al-Heil gas field in Badiyeh in Eastern Homs, restoring sustainable security to the strategic region, a military source said.

The sources reported that the army men managed to advance against ISIL in Arak oilfield and the third Station in Eastern Homs and fortified their positons in areas surrounding al-Heil gas field.

The sources underlined importance of al-Heil gas field and said that the field is located 14km away from the town of al-Sukhnah that is ISIL’s last defense line standing on the way government forces before Deir Ezzur.

Relevant reports said on Monday that the army’s missile units opened heavy fire at ISIL’s positions in al-Madjaneh region Southeast of Humeimeh region near the provincial borders with Deir Ezzur, destroying a command center of the terrorists.

Military sources confirmed that ISIL’s military equipment were set ablaze and a number of militants were killed or wounded in the blast at their command center near the town of al-Sukhnah.

In the meantime, the missile units targeted ISIL’s movements near the town of al-Sukhna, destroying a large volume of military equipment in Syriatel tower overlooking al-Sukhnah.

A number of terrorists were also killed in the Syriatel attack.
