Satellite images show ISIS destruction on oil fields in Deir Ezzor
Satellite photos have been released on social media showing two oil wellheads that have been destroyed by the ISIS terrorist group.
In the pictures below, it can be seen that one of the oil wellheads was still burning at the time of the satellite image capture. The second oil well appears to have been destroyed some time ago (a creator can be seen where the explosive charge was laid to sabotage the site).
Based on geo-location data, the two oil wellheads shown below appear to be part of the Sijan Oil Field on the eastern side of the Euphrates River in Syria’s Deir Ezzor Governorate.
It is a standard practice by ISIS to destroy key resource infrastructures in regions where their forces are at threat of being overrun. The gradual ISIS retreat across eastern Homs this year in particular has seen the jihadist faction torch dozens of gas and oil wells as it has been forced to cede these sites to pro-government forces.
