Iraqi Interior Minister Qasim al-Araji underlined the necessity for further broadening and strengthening relations with Iran.

“The Iraqi government pursues development of all-out ties with Iran seriously and there is a capacity for the development of ties between the two countries in all fields,” al-Araji said in a meeting with Governor-General of Iran’s Northeastern province of Khorassan Razavi in Mashhad on Tuesday.

He also underscored the need for facilitating reciprocal visits by the Iranian and Iraqi nationals, and said, “After returning to Iraq, we will also pursue the plan building Mashhad-Najaf railway which has been emphasized by the Iranian president too.”

Al-Araji’s visit to Mashhad was made after Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and his Iraqi counterpart in a meeting in Tehran signed a security agreement.

The agreement was signed between Rahmani Fazli and al-Araji to expand bilateral ties on boosting border security and control as well as safety of pilgrims.

The two sides also discussed regional developments

The Iranian interior minister said that Tehran and Baghdad can increase their cooperation to fight terrorism and extremism in the region.
