Syrian Army, Hezbollah celebrate imminent victory at Deir Ezzor Airbase
Jubilant scenes are taking place in eastern Syria as we speak after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) suddenly turned the tides in Deir Ezzor, breaking an ISIS-imposed siege on the city that was upheld for over three years.
On Wednesday, the media department of Hezbollah (Lebanese paramilitary) released footage of SAA troops waving the flag of Palestine, Syria and Hezbollah through the streets of Deir Ezzor.
Later in the video, Syrian troops stationed at the encircled airbase were shown in surprisingly good shape, shouting pro-government slogans to the Lebanese cameraman:
Deir Ezzor Airbase has been cutoff from the city itself since January 2017 when ISIS militants at the time cut the eastern government enclave in two.
With the provincial capital finally liberated, its southern airport is expected to be the next major focus of the SAA’s ongoing offensive.
