Syrian Army strikes back near Sukhnah, liberates strategic gas field
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) struck back against the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in the Sukhnah countryside, Thursday, liberating an important area close to this imperative desert city.
Backed by heavy airstrikes from the Russian Aerospace Forces, the Syrian Arab Army was able to regain the initiative south of Sukhnah, ending the Islamic State’s advance towards the city’s southern gate.
According to a military report, the Syrian Arab Army was able to liberate the Al-Hayl Gas Field on Thursday, resulting in the death of several Islamic State terrorists and the reopening of the Palmyra-Sukhnah Road.
Despite the liberation of the Al-Hayl Gas Field, the Syrian Arab Army still needs to clear the remaining areas occupied by the Islamic State east of the city.
