Updated map of Kirkuk after Iraqi forces seize city, nearby oil fields
The Iraqi military imposed full control over the provincial capital of the Kirkuk Governorate on Monday, expelling the remaining Kurdish Peshmerga fighters from the city.
Following the seizure of Kirkuk, the Iraqi forces established full control over the K1 Base, provincial airport, and several oil fields, including the Bai Hassan and Dibs refineries.
With the departure of the Peshmerga and PKK forces from Kirkuk, the Iraqi government has retained control over this imperative area known for its wealth of oil and large Turkmen population.
In addition to the Kirkuk operation, the Yazidi-led pro-government forces took control of Sinjar City and the Rabi’ah Crossing after the Peshmerga abandoned their posts in northwest Iraq.
