Iran deplores EU inaction on PJAK

A senior Iranian lawmaker censures EU’s support for the notorious Party for Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) terrorist group, urging Germany to arrest and extradite PJAK ringleader Abdul Rahman Haji Ahmadi to Iran.

Germany should arrest and try the PJAK ringleader or hand him over to the Islamic Republic of Iran, said Chairwoman of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) Committee on Human Rights Zohreh Elahian in a letter to the President of the Bundestag (the German parliament), Norbert Lammert, on Monday.

Amid mounting efforts by most countries to ratify documents and take measures against acts of terror, we are still witnessing that terrorist groups are active in certain states which claim to fight terrorism, she added, IRNA reported.

The Iranian legislator emphasized that terrorist groups have no basic abilities to live or carry out activities “without the support of certain governments.”

She expressed regret that the European Union supported PJAK terrorist acts and granted German nationality to Haji Ahmadi instead of putting the international criminal on trial or extraditing him to Iran.

Elahian stated that the trial of perpetrators of moves against humanity is an inseparable prerequisite for the establishment of peace and security in the world.

PJAK is an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which regularly carries out cross-border raids along Iran’s western borders with Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region. It is listed as a terrorist organization by many countries and international bodies.
