QUDS DAY’23: Muslim Nations Unite in Show of Solidarity for al-Quds on Final Friday of Ramadan

Millions of Muslims around the globe participated in rallies in their respective cities on International Quds Day to show solidarity with Palestinians and express their opposition to the Israeli occupation.

In 1979, Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Revolution, declared the last Friday of the sacred month of Ramadan to be Quds Day, to maintain awareness of the Palestinian struggle in the Muslim world. Every year, this day is commemorated worldwide with huge gatherings of people.

The main speaker of a ceremony held to commemorate the day in Dahiyeh, Beirut, Lebanon was Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, has stated that unity demonstrated on Quds Day has effectively doubled the enemies’ fear.

Hizballah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah declared that Quds Day carries a message of backing for the Palestinian people, and that the unity shown in Quds Day causes the enemy’s fear and unease to be amplified.

The Israeli regime has instructed its forces to be on high alert and its officials have issued “empty threats” against neighboring countries, ensuring that this event is taking place with full security and tranquility.

He cautioned the Israeli adversary that any misdeed directed towards Al-Aqsa Mosque, Al-Quds, West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon, or Syria could bring on a comprehensive war across the entire region.

Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah declared that Israel does not have the courage to attack Iran, and cautioned the United States and the Israeli regime that Muslim holy sites and Palestinian nations are “red lines” that should not be crossed.

At least four people were killed in Nigeria when a peaceful protest turned violent. Demonstrators had been gathering in the country’s capital to express their discontent with police brutality and the government’s response to it. However, the rally quickly descended into chaos when security forces opened fire on the crowd, killing four people. Reports indicate that many more were injured in the incident.

According to reports, one person was killed and several others were injured when the police opened fire on pro-Palestinian demonstrators during a rally in Abuja.

The injured were rushed to the hospital, one of whom had been shot in the chest and two others in the legs.

Footage from Abuja reveals police firing tear gas canisters at the parade, resulting in demonstrators frantically trying to take cover.

The head of Islamic Jihad declared that Palestinians will continue to struggle and not surrender in their fight against oppression.

In Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, thousands of people assembled in Palestine Street to show their solidarity with Palestine. Ziyad al-Nakhalah, Secretary General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement, was present at the gathering as a special guest.

Speaking at the gathering, al-Nakhalah declared that the frequent occurrences taking place at al-Aqsa Mosque are sufficient to enable one to “perceive the reality”.

He noted that Palestinian fighters in the West Bank were prepared to do so, declaring, “We will protect our faith and heritage in al-Quds.”

He stated that anyone who believes the Palestinians will cease their battle is deluded, and continued, “We will keep up the struggle, even if it takes a millennium to free Palestine.”

Quds Day illuminates the path that we must take.

At the same event, Akram al-Kaabi, the Secretary General of Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba (an Iraqi resistance group), spoke of Quds Day as an important principle that “guides and reveals our direction.”

He strongly criticized certain regional nations for normalizing their ties with Israel, and declared that Iraq’s stance of backing Palestine and opposing the occupiers is “unwavering”.

He declared that neither Americans nor Zionists should be mistaken in thinking they can intimidate or coerce them, as their objectives are of utmost importance and will not be abandoned or compromised.

On the occasion of the special day, Hamas released a statement asserting that the Muslim world has a responsibility to stand up to Israeli occupation.

The Muslim world has a duty to liberate al-Quds and al-Aqsa Mosque, as this is the epicenter of the struggle against the enemies who have invaded our land, murdered our people, and caused them to be displaced.

The people of Yemen are prepared to face off against Israel.

Despite the rainy weather, hundreds of thousands of Yemenis gathered in Sana’a on Friday to participate in the Quds Day rallies.

Demonstrators at a Yemeni rally were seen carrying flags of both Palestine and Yemen, and chanting slogans against Israel, while burning Israeli flags. This was reported by the Yemeni outlet Al-Masirah.

A statement issued after today’s demonstrations declared that the Palestinian cause is a central matter of the Muslim Ummah and top of both religious and humanitarian priorities. It further expressed that Palestine is a just objective that our people are striving to achieve, and that the enemy will not be able to prevent us from reaching it.

In Bahrain, Syria, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, and Tanzania, Muslims organized demonstrations and events to commemorate the day.
