20 November 2017 14:36

Iraqi troops confiscated huge amounts of weapons of ISIL terror group in Southwest of Mosul, a security source from Nineveh said.

“The weapons are estimated by 40 tons,The weapons were found buried under the ground in Ain al-Jahsh region, Southwest of Mosul,”  the source said, Alghad Press reported.

Earlier in the day, curfew was imposed in al-Eraij village, South of Mosul,in search for ISIL members, who launched an armed attack against the village on Saturday night. Moreover, five ISIL members were killed as the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces foiled an attack by the militants through Tal Sufuk crossing on the Iraqi-Syrian borders.

Despite declaring the victory over ISIL in Mosul, the group’s former bastion in Iraq, observers say ISIL is believed to constitute a security threat even after the group’s defeat at its main havens across Iraqi provinces.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared, in July, victory over ISIL militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014. More than 25000 militants were killed throughout the campaign.

A government-led campaign has been fighting the ISIL militant group since October 2016. The war against ISIL has so far displaced at least five million people. Thousands of others fled toward neighboring countries including Syria, Turkey and other European countries, since ISIL emerged to proclaim its rule in lage swaths of Iraq and Syria.
