Syria’s most important offensive against ISIS led by Iran’s best commander
Iranian-led forces have played a critical role in the battle against ISIS in eastern Syria. This is all the more truer when talking about the battles to liberate cities like Al-Mayadeen and Abu Kamal as well as the battle for the T-2 military airport.
In recent weeks it has become apparent that leading Iranian-backed forces in support of the Syrian Arab Army during such battles was none other Major General Qasem Soleimani, the top commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force and a battlefield leader with experience dating back to the Iran-Iraq war.
Recently, Hezbollah affiliated media released a brief video showing Major General Soleimani in action, at the front-line and in the operations room, leading Iranian-backed forces during the battle for Al-Mayadeen.
Specifically, the video shows Soleimani directing forces to capture certain hills near Al-Mayadeen in order to achieve fire control and cut ISIS supply lines running into the city.
