Iraqi Security Forces launch major operation to stem out ISIS cells in Diyala
The commander of the Tigris Operations Room Lt. Colonel Muzher al-Azawi confirmed the launch of an extensive military campaign aimed at rooting out the ISIS sleeper cells that infest eastern Diyala.
Azzawi said in a media statement on Saturday that the Iraqi Security Forces with the support of the army, the police, and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) launched their extensive operation from two axes in Hawd al-Nada east of Ba’aquba all the way to the Qazlaq region.
He added that the operation is ongoing with full coordination with the Iraqi Air Force as the government’s general strategy aims to eradicate all activities of the extremist group that has taken this area as a launchpad of its insurgency campaign.
