Yemeni army, Ansarullah fighters attack Saudi tanks in Najran

The Yemeni army, backed by Houthi Ansarullah fighters, has attacked Saudi tanks near Saudi’s border with Yemen, reports say.

The attacks, launched late on Tuesday, targeted a number of Saudi tanks in the country’s southwestern city of Najran near the border with Yemen.

Earlier, a news channel close to the Ansarullah movement released new footage showing Yemeni fighters capturing the al-Makhrouq military base in Saudi Arabia’s Jizan region, in southwest of the country. Saudi forces reportedly left behind their weapons and vehicles and fled the area.

Meanwhile, Saudi warplanes launched five airstrikes on a coastal military base in the Jabaneh district in the province of Hudaydah, in western Yemen, causing casualties.

Earlier in the day, Saudi warplanes also pounded a medical center and a school in Hayran city in the eastern province of Hajjah, leaving at least six people dead.

Moreover, aerial bombardments of Ta’izz province also left nine civilians, including three women and two children, dead.

Riyadh launched its military aggression against Yemen on March 26 without a United Nations mandate.

Riyadh aims to weaken the Houthi Ansarullah movement, which currently controls the capital, Sana’a, and major provinces, and to restore power to Yemen’s fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Saudi Arabia.

The UN says since March, nearly 2,000 people have been killed and 7,330 others injured due to the conflict in Yemen. However, according to Yemen’s Freedom House Foundation, the Saudi airstrikes have claimed the lives of about 4,000 Yemeni people.

Yemenis now face a humanitarian crisis, as reports suggest millions of people in the war-torn country are without clean drinking water as a result of the Saudi military aggression.
