US-led jets ‘mistakenly’ attack allied Kurds in Syria, kill six militants

18 October 2018 15:01

Warplanes of the US-led coalition purportedly fighting Daesh have mistakenly targeted allied Kurdish militants in Syria’s eastern Dayr al-Zawr Province, killing six of them.

Russian media quoted a military and diplomatic source as saying that two coalition F-15 fighter jets had bombarded near the city of Hajin in Dayr al-Zawr Province on Wednesday.

The source also noted that the “unprofessional” US strike had left 15 Kurdish militants seriously injured.

“The imitation of the fight against terrorists in this region of Syria has been going on for more than six months and has been used by Washington to justify its illegal presence in this country,” he added.

The source further complained that the US-led coalition’s air raids had not only disrupted an alleged operation against the Dash Takfiri terrorist group, but also led to numerous defections in the ranks of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed coalition of mainly Kurdish militants.

Moreover, the source added, the US strikes had enabled anti-Damascus terrorists to seize more territories.

“These facts demonstrate that the US policy in Syria has failed just as in the neighboring Iraq, as it does not solve any problems but only creates the new one for the whole region,” he said.

The US and its allies have been bombarding what they call Daesh positions inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate.

The aerial assaults, however, have on many occasions resulted in civilian casualties and failed to fulfill their declared aim of countering terrorism.

The Syrian army managed to liberate Dayr Al-Zawr city from the grip of Daesh in November 2017.

Now, the terror outfit controls small pockets of the province, much of them empty desert, and uses guerrilla-style tactics in its fight against pro-government Syrian forces.
