NATO soldier killed in Afghanistan

A soldier serving with NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has been killed in an armed conflict in southern Afghanistan.

The soldier lost his life in “a small-arms attack” in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, the military alliance announced Thursday.

NATO has withheld information on the identity and nationality of the soldier and the exact location where the incident occurred.

The latest death brings to 181 the number of the foreign forces killed in Afghanistan since the beginning of 2010.

Year 2009 was the deadliest for the foreign troops stationed in Afghanistan with a total death toll of 520.

There are currently 120,000 foreign forces in Afghanistan, which is expected to climb to150,000 by August, as the US plans another troop surge in the war-torn country.
