10 million pilgrims in Karbala to mark Arbain

More than 10 million Muslim pilgrims are in Karbala to celebrate Arbain, the 40th day of the martyrdom of Imam Hossein (AS) and his 72 comrades.

That was according to Karbala’s Governor, Amal-Din al-Hir on Friday.

He added about 100,000 of the pilgrims are from Persian Gulf littoral states including the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as Syria, Lebanon, Tanzania, America, Norway and Belgium.

Most Iraqi visitors have walked from different parts of the country to Karbala, some of journeys took two weeks time, he stated.

The Iraqi official further said Karbala has no more space for more pilgrims.

He added the Iraqi government has allocated over 2,500 vehicles for transportation of pilgrims but it is not enough.

Arbain ceremonies would be ended after holding Friday prayers in Karbala.
