Afghan officials say more than 100 people have lost their lives and hundreds of others displaced in an overnight flooding in the province of Baghlan, Press TV reports.

According to local officials in Baghlan, hundreds of homes have also been destroyed as a result of the flooding.

Reports say the victims were residents of the district of Gozar Gahe Noor.

This is while the death toll is likely to rise. Other reports suggest 200 people have been killed.

In April, more than 150 people were killed and thousands of others displaced in flooding that struck the country’s northern Faryab, Sar-e-Pol, Jowzjan, and Badghis provinces.

Many homes and roads were also ruined.

Such natural disasters usually cause many deaths and heavy property damage as most homes in Afghanistan are made of mud and stone, and are easily washed away.

Afghanistan with its rugged terrain is highly vulnerable to various kinds of natural disasters, which adversely impact the lives of thousands of people every year, according to international aid agencies.
