339862_Yemen-protestThousands of people have held a demonstration in Yemen to protest against the deteriorating security situation in the country.

Huge crowds took to the streets of the capital Sana’a after Friday prayers while a demonstration was also held in the northwestern city of Sa’ada.

The protesters censured the Yemeni government for failing to provide security in the country.

In the past seven months, more than 90 army officers and security officials have been assassinated by unidentified gunmen.

Many foreign journalists and diplomats have also been kidnapped and held for ransom by gunmen.

In December 2012, two armed men killed Lieutenant Colonel Mutei Baqatyan, a member of the country’s state security, in an attack in the southern city of Mukalla.

Major General Ahmed was also seriously injured and 12 people were killed in a car bomb attack that targeted his motorcade in the heart of Sana’a in September 2012.

On August 31, Yemeni Prime Minister Mohammed Salim Basindawa escaped an assassination attempt by unknown gunmen, who opened fire on his convoy in the capital.
