1000s of Australians hold anti-Israel demo in Sydney

374032_Anti-Israel-protestMore than 3,000 people have staged a demonstration in the Australian city of Sydney to denounce the Israeli regime’s onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip, Press TV reports.

The protesters gathered outside Sydney’s town hall on Sunday, chanting slogans in support of Palestine and denouncing the Israeli war on Gaza as genocide.

It was the fourth pro-Palestine rally held in Australia over the past four weeks.

The demonstrators were holding placards reading, “Someone do something,” “This is not war, this is genocide,” “Our hearts are with Palestine,” and “End the occupation, free Palestine, free Gaza.”

They marched towards the US consulate in Sydney’s central business district, where they staged a sit-in protest and criticized the US administration for supplying Tel Aviv with weapons of mass destruction.

The Australian protesters also vowed to continue their rallies for as long as it takes until the Israeli invasion of Gaza ends.

“We are also calling, of course, for the long-term cessation of violence, the removal of the blockade on Gaza and an end to the occupation of Palestine,” said Mehreen Faruqi, from the New South Wales (NSW) Legislative Council.

Meanwhile, 55 Australian politicians from different parties have signed a letter, condemning Israel’s offensive and demanding a ceasefire in the blockaded coastal enclave.

This comes as Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and some figures from his coalition government have pledged full support for Israel in its ongoing massacre of the Palestinians.

Israeli warplanes have been pounding numerous sites in the Gaza Strip since July 8, demolishing houses and burying families under the rubble.

According to Palestinian sources in the Gaza Strip, Israel’s airstrikes and ground invasion have left over 1,822 people killed and more than 9,400 wounded.
