2 killed, 69 injured in northern India earthquake

At least two people have been killed and 69 others wounded after a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit northern India.

The moderate quake struck along the border of the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, and sent people rushing into the streets in panic.

The Indian Meteorological Department says the epicenter of the quake was located some 450 kilometers (280 miles) north of the Indian capital New Delhi.

At least 32 students were reportedly among the injured.

The earthquake, which triggered landslides, has caused damage to several schools and buildings in the twin districts of Kishtwar and Doda in the Jammu region of the Indian-administered Kashmir.

The quake has also been felt in the states of Punjab and Haryana.
