2 US-led troops killed in Afghanistan

Two NATO soldiers have been killed in separate attacks across Afghanistan, bringing to 184 the number of foreign troops killed in the war-torn country in 2010.

NATO said in a statement on Friday that the troops were killed in southern and eastern Afghanistan during the past 24 hours.

According to the statement, the first soldier died in an insurgent attack while the second soldier was killed in an indirect fire incident.

The nationalities of the soldiers are yet to be revealed.

According to official announcements, 2009 was the deadliest year for foreign troops with a total of 520 US-led soldiers killed in action.

Attacks against some 130,000 foreign troops in Afghanistan have recently been on the rise. The US plans to deploy 30,000 extra troops by August in an effort to bring the growing militancy under control.

The 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan, involving forces mostly from NATO countries, has so far failed to bring security to the war-ravaged country.
