Tunisian Clerics Urge Boycott of Hajj Pilgrimage

24 June 2018 16:21

The Riyadh regime is spending Hajj revenues on the massacre of Muslims, the union said in a statement, according to local media reports.

The clerics also called on Grand Mufti of Tunisia Othman Battikh to issue a fatwa to cancel the nationals’ travels to Saudi Arabia for Hajj in September.

General-Secretary of the Union of Tunisian Imams, Fadhel Ashour said, “It is better to spend this money to improve the conditions of the Tunisian people.”

Tunisian Minister of Religious Affairs, Ahmed Adhoum, had earlier announced that there have been 236,000 Hajj applications this year.

He explained that the number of Tunisian pilgrims in 2018 will be 10,892 compared to 10,374 in 2017.

The statement came as Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by a coalition led by the Saudi regime for more than three years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
