Two separate shooting incidents in Jackson, Mississippi have left 3 people killed and another person injured, officials say.

During the first incident, which happened on Saturday at 6:30 pm, two men were shot multiple times at South Westhaven Drive, said JPD Officer Colendula Green.

Eli Nunez Sanchez, 22, died at the scene and Daniel Gomez, 22, was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead later.

“I saw one of the neighbors where they were getting shot at, and he had just gotten home and he said that 2 of his relatives had gotten shot in the chest, and they had been outside cooking in the front yard and a couple of black gentlemen drove past and shot at them multiple times,” said a neighbor.

Shortly after what officials called a double homicide, another shooting took place in the same city leaving one man dead and another injured.

The two men, who were not identified, were shot at the Fuel Time Gas some time before 11 pm, said Green.

One of them died at the scene and the other, who was shot in the hand, was taken to hospital, he added.

The motive for the shooting is not known yet, but officers are investigating the incident.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has estimated that more than 1.5 million domestic gun deaths have been registered in the US between 1968 and 2014.

CDC also reports that firearms kill more than 33,000 people in the US every year, a number that includes accidental discharge, murders and suicides.

Today, it is estimated that there are between 270 million and 300 million guns in the US, about one per person, according to the New York Daily News.
