4 killed in Afghanistan bomb blast

A roadside bomb blast has claimed the lives of a father and his three children in Afghanistan’s western province of Farah.

Abdul Rahman Zhwandy, a provincial government spokesman, said that the incident occurred in Lash Wa Juwayn District on Tuesday when a car hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The mother of the family, who sustained serious injuries, has been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the official said.

Zhwandy blamed Taliban militants for the attack.

On Monday, a family of seven died in similar incident in eastern Laghman Province.

Meanwhile, over a dozen people, including school children, were killed in another bomb explosion in eastern province of Paktia.

According to a UN report released in February, more than 2,750 people were killed and over 4,800 injured in conflict-related violence in Afghanistan in 2012.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues across the country.
