4 Prisoners Killed in Prison Attack in Indonesia

Unidentified gunmen attacked Cebongan prison in Sleman of Yogyakarta in Indonesia earlier Saturday, killing four prisoners and injuring several prison officers, local media said.

The attackers fired their guns to the air when they entered the prisons at 1:30 a.m. local time.

Four prisoners were shot dead and a number of officers were wounded, Xinhua reported.

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Djoko Suyanto ordered Natinal Police Chief General Timor Pradopo and Armed Force Commander Admiral Agus Suhartono to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

According to Republika online, some 17 attackers entered the prison by blowing up the prison gate with a grenade. Four prisoners were shot dead and eight prison officers were injured during the attack.

Djoko Suyanto said that “no one is immune from the law in this country”.
