50 Alien Aircraft Shooed Away from Iran’s Airspace during NAM Summit

Iran’s air-defense units have issued 50 warnings to alien aircraft during the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran late in August.

“During the Non-Aligned Movement summit we sent 50 warnings to the aircraft of the regional and trans-regional countries, which were trying to approach the airspace of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli told Iranian lawmakers here in Tehran on Sunday.

During the NAM summit, Esmayeeli had announced that the Iranian Armed Forces established an integrated multi-layer air defense structure to protect country’s airspace during the summit in Tehran.

Addressing a large congregation of Iranian worshipers in Tehran on August 31, Esmayeeli said his forces had adopted proper measures since long before to guarantee security of Iran’s airspace and the Iranian capital during the summit.

“Since a long time ago, the Armed Forces’ air defense unit has specified and deployed in its positions vigilantly and with full preparedness, constantly monitored (enemy moves) beyond borders and came under the control of an integrated air defense network in a multi-layer air defense,” the commander stated.

The 16th NAM summit was held in Tehran from August 26 to 31.

Some 51 countries sent their high-ranking leaders to the 16th heads-of-state summit of the NAM, while over 150 delegations from the world countries and bodies attended the other meetings of the bloc in Tehran.
