6 killed and 65 injured in attacks against political parties in Pakistan

Pakistan

Anti-democratic forces in Pakistan seem to have geared up against leftist political parties in a bid to destabilize the country democratic process when two major parties came under attack in Karachi on Saturday’s night.
Reports noted that at least six people had been killed and over 65 injured in the three consecutive explosions.

A corner meeting of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), held to discuss May 11 polls, was bombed – at least four people, including a woman, were killed and around 40 others were injured – in Karachi’s Lyari neighborhood.

PPP candidate for provincial assembly, Adnan Baloch was among the injured.

Earlier, at least two people were killed and more than 25 injured in two separate blasts near the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) election office at a locality in the city’s Orangi Town area Saturday’s evening.

According to police, the bombings were carried out through planted devices in Qasba Colony locality.

Police added the first bomb was exploded outside the MQM election office while the second was detonated outside a nearby Shia mosque in the vicinity.

The twin explosions were so loud that they were heard from far away and damaged nearby buildings and vehicles.

Saturday’s blast made a tally of five terrorist attacks in as many days in the metropolis -the financial hub of the country –

At least 26 people have died in these attacks in less than a week.

Outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) vowed to target secular political forces in Pakistan – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP).

The banned outfit has claimed responsibilities for Thursday and Friday attacks which targeted the MQM and ANP.

The MQM announced it will observe a day of mourning throughout the Sindh province on Sunday. The party appealed to the masses to keep all businesses and transport shut.
