6th Phase of Evacuation of Gunmen from Northwestern Outskirts of Homs Ended

Local officials confirmed that with the evacuation of 1,400 gunmen and their family members from al-Wa’er district the 6th phase of the evacuation deal in the district came to an end.

The sources said that in line with implementation of the 6th phase of the evacuation deal in Homs province, almost 160 gunmen along with their family members left al-Wa’er for the border town of Jarabulus in Northern Aleppo.

In the meantime, those militants that have handed over their arms to relevant official and joined the peace process received government amnesty and returned to normal life.

Also, Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi said that the evacuation process is proceeding successfully without problem under the supervision of the Syrian internal security forces, the Russian military police, and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).

He also added that more than 700 amnesty application forms were studied as per the amnesty decree issued in 2016, with 544 of them receiving approval and a cessation of wanted status, allowing them to return to their normal life, and the rest of the requests are being processed.

Homs Police Chief lt. Gen. Khaled Hilal stressed that security forces are ready to enter al-Wa’er after  militants leave the district to restore security to the region and enforce the rule of law to end the chaos spread by the terrorists.

Sources said on Monday that over 900 people, including 119 gunmen that refused to join peace with the Syrian government left al-Wa’er district for Jarabulus.

In the meantime, Barazi said that two more groups of gunmen and their family members would leave al-Wa’er in the next two days, adding that the evacuation agreement concluded between the militants and the army would expire on 13th of the next month.

Barazi added that in the seventh phase of the evacuation, those terrorists that were affiliated to Ahrar al-Sham and Al-Nusra Front (also known as Fatah al-Sham Front or the Levant Liberation Board) would leave al-Wa’er.
