Seven Afghan civilians were killed and four others wounded Wednesday morning when a roadside bomb struck a vehicle in Western province of Herat, the country’s Interior Ministry said.

“A civilian vehicle touched off a roadside bomb planted by Taliban insurgent group in Ali Abad area, Shindand district of Herat province at around 8:45 am local time.” As a result “seven innocent civilians were killed and four others wounded”, the ministry said in a statement, Xinhua reported.

The statement said several women and children were among the victims, adding that the injured were shifted to a hospital by police forces in the province 640 km West of Afghan capital Kabul.

Afghan Taliban, who has launched massive Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and roadside bomb attacks against foreign and Afghan national security forces in recent years, has yet to make comments.

The official said an investigation was kicked off into the incidents.
