800,000 to strike against Tories

Hundreds of thousands of British teachers, civil service workers, and lecturers are to strike against the coalition government’s spending cuts to defend their pensions and the welfare state.

About 800,000 workers from four main unions including the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Public and Commercial Services (PCS), University and College Union (UCU) and Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) have planned to take part in the anti-Tory protests on 30 June.

According to protest plans, the large number of schools, colleges, and offices would close on the day of the protest, as the strikers are to descend to the streets to shout their anger against the cut plans imposed by the government.

People are increasingly joining the unions to participate in the strike against the government’s austerity measures, since they are angry at whatever this government is doing.
