99-percenters stage protest in US city ahead of Republican meeting

Hundreds of 99-percenters have taken to the streets in Tampa, Florida, ahead of the Republican National Convention in the US city.

The demonstrators held rallies on Sunday, two days before the high-profile gathering, which is expected to declare Mitt Romney the official Republican candidate for the November presidential election in the US.

The 99-percenters said the impending Tropical Storm Isaac that is expected to bring heavier rains on the city will not deter them.

The GOP convention was initially planned to be held on Monday but the party officials decided to postpone it to Tuesday due to the hurricane.

The protesters also accused the US authorities of ignoring their needs while serving the interests of the country’s one percent.

At least one protester was arrested during the protest.

The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have issued an alert ahead of a massive demonstration in the coast city on the day of the Republican National Convention.
