A good response to foreign interference: Islamic politics next phase in Egypt

Egypt’s most organized political party the Muslim Brotherhood has emphasized that the next phase in the North African state will be the practice of ‘Islamic politics,’ Press TV reports.

Mohamed Ghanem, Muslim Brotherhood representative in Britain, said that following the revolution, Egypt will take up “a good way of Islamic politics toward democracy.”

Ghanem made the remarks in reaction to comments by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who has called on Egyptians to adopt a secular constitution.

Erdogan said on Wednesday that secularism does not mean the rejection of religion, adding that he is a Muslim prime minister for a secular state.

“It does not take an expert in politics to see the difference between the political development in Turkey and the circumstances in Egypt. We can not duplicate what is happening in Turkey in Egypt,” Ghanem said.

Mahmoud Ghuzlan, the spokesman of the Muslim Brotherhood, described Erdogan’s comments as interference in Egypt’s internal affairs.

Erdogan is on a tour of Egypt, Libya and Tunisia following the downfall of the long-time dictators in the three Arab states in order to bolster Turkey’s regional influence.

Muslim Brotherhood has urged Erdogan to avoid domination of the Middle East.

“Arab states do not need outside projects … This has to come from the new internal systems of the Arab countries which after the revolutions … will be democratic ones,” said Essam el-Erian, deputy leader of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice party.
