Ayatollah Araki hailed Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr for its attempt in the way of Islam and countering willful stances and policies. To him, the late Sheikh Nimr was a spiritual scholar who always sought dialogue and resisted injustice.

Saudi Arabia has executed Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr along 46 other people in defiance of international calls for the release of the prominent Shia cleric and other jailed political dissidents in the kingdom.

Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr , a critic of the Riyadh regime, was shot by Saudi police and arrested in 2012 in the Qatif region of Shia-dominated Eastern Province, which was the scene of peaceful anti-regime demonstrations at the time.

A ceremony was held at the Islamic Center of England in London to commemorate prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, whose recent execution by the Saudi regime drew worldwide condemnation.

A large number of Muslim scholars, clerics, academic figures and others took part at the ceremony. Speakers at the ceremony also condemned the execution of sheikh Nimr saying the Saudi regime, which is backed by Western governments, has no respect for human rights.
