Afghan forces kill 37 Taliban militants across Afghanistan

348507_Taliban- militantsAfghan government forces have killed 37 Taliban militants during cleanup operations across the war-ravaged country over the past 24 hours, Interior Ministry says.

Afghan Interior Ministry said in a statement released on Thursday that the militants were killed in large-scale security operations in Kabul, Nangarahr, Parwan, Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul, Zabul, Uruzgan, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Farah and Helmand provinces.

At least five militants were also injured and two others were detained during the raids on their hideouts across the troubled region, the statement added.

It, however, did not mention whether there were any casualties on the side of Afghan or foreign forces.

Afghan security forces also said they have recovered a large amount of arms and ammunition from the hideouts.

The Taliban militant group has not yet commented on these developments.

Taliban militant group has recently stepped up attacks against US-led and Afghan forces, vowing a new wave of attacks across Afghanistan.

The militant group has said it would use “every possible tactic” to inflict casualties on Afghan and US-led forces. They specifically mentioned insider attacks, and bomb attacks.

The announcement prompted the Afghan authorities to beef up security in major cities across the country, including the capital city of Kabul.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but the country is still gripped by insecurity.
