African refugees announce plans to protest Israel

343747_African-protester-IsraelAfrican asylum-seekers in Israel have announced plans to hold another protest over Tel Aviv’s refugee policies.

The African Refugees Development Center (ARDC) released a statement on Saturday saying the asylum seekers would start three days of demonstrations from Sunday.

The new protests are the latest step by the African asylum seekers against the Israeli regime’s policies towards asylum seekers.

Thousands of the Africans have staged protests on the last two Saturdays in response to Israel’s implementation of an anti-infiltration law, which allows the Israeli regime to jail asylum seekers for a long time without charge or deport them to their countries where their lives are often in danger.

The demonstrators called for the release of all imprisoned refugees and for the recognition of their rights.

In mid-December, Tel Aviv began operating a new detention facility for the African refugees in Negev.

Human Right Watch has said that Tel Aviv used the “threat of prolonged detention” to force the African migrants to give up their asylum claims, adding, “Israel should end its unlawful detention policy and release all asylum seekers.”
