Ahmadinejad-Castro Stresses Iran, Cuba’s Common Positions on Int’l Developments

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a meeting with former Cuban President Fidel Castro stressed the common positions of Tehran and Havana on different international issues, and called for the further reinvigoration of ties between the two countries.

President Ahmadinejad said Tehran and Havana were carrying a heavy burden on establishing a new order for international relations which should be based on justice and humanity.

He also stressed the need for the further convergence among revolutionary states.

During the meeting which was held Wednesday in local time, the two reviewed major international and regional developments.

They said strengthening convergence among revolutionary nations would help change unjust equations and bring about peace to the entire world.

The Iranian President and revolutionary leader of Cuba also called for strengthening unity among world nations to resist expansionism of bullying powers.

The Iranian President also called for promotion of Tehran-Havana relations in various fields.

Meanwhile, Castro praised efforts of the Iranian nation to resist Imperialism and bullying powers of the world.

Referring to strategic relations between Iran and Cuba, the former president of Cuba stressed the need to increase bilateral cooperation between the two capitals in all fields.

He also said that world nations should move towards removing existing international problems, including nuclear disarmament.

The former president of Cuba also urged further cooperation among revolutionary states to foil unjust Imperialistic plots which have targeted the Islamic Iran.

Iran has been seeking to boost its ties with Latin American countries in recent years to the concern of the United States.

Since taking office in 2005, President Ahmadinejad has expanded Iran’s cooperation with many Latin American states, including Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador and Brazil.

But, Iran has grown specially expansive ties with Venezuela, and now the two countries are considered allies in many fields and in all international bodies, specially within the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) which controls the world’s oil lifeline.

The strong and rapidly growing ties between Iran and Latin America have raised eyebrows in the US and its western allies since Tehran and Latin nations have forged an alliance against the imperialist and colonialist powers and are striving hard to reinvigorate their relations with the other independent countries which pursue a line of policy independent from the US.
