Ahmadinejad cautions on enemy plots

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has warned against rising conspiracies by enemies against independent Muslim governments and nations.

“Muslim countries should further strengthen their bonds and interactions to counter enemy plots,” President Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with Mauritania’s Prime Minister Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf in New York on Wednesday.

He pointed to growing ties between Iran and Mauritania and said the two countries should make use of their utmost potential to bolster bilateral cooperation and undertake new projects.

The Mauritanian premier, for his part, stressed that expansion of bilateral cooperation with the Islamic Republic in a variety of fields would open new prospects in ties between the two countries.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, the Iranian chief executive expressed hope that Turkey would establish a new balanced mechanism at the UN Security Council during the country’s rotating presidency of the council to restore rights of nations.

Gul called for enhanced ties with Iran, aiming to serve the interests of both nations as well as the region.

In a separate meeting, the Iranian president also exchanged views with Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim on leading regional and international developments.

Ahmadinejad and Amorim reiterated that a nuclear swap declaration would provide the P5+1 group of nations – Russia, China, France, Britain and the US plus Germany — with an opportunity to achieve appropriate outcomes.

Iran, Brazil and Turkey issued a joint nuclear swap declaration on May 17, based on which Tehran agreed to exchange 1,200 kg of its low-enriched uranium on Turkish soil with fuel for its Tehran research reactor.

The Iranian president also met with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Fander Falconi and discussed ways to expand mutual ties.

President Ahmadinejad is in New York on a week-long visit to participate in the 65th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly. He addressed the forum on Tuesday.
