Ahmadinejad criticizes al-Azhar spokesman statements

Iran’s president has warned al-Azhar official in the press conference not to make statements that surface Sunni-Shiite discords.
During the press conference, Ahmadinejad warned the Egyptian side that he would leave the meeting if al-Azhar sheikh continued his statements. It was communicated to sheikh by one of his companies.

Then he changed his rhetoric, saying that during the meeting, they emphasized the importance of religious tolerance among Sunni and Shiite sects of Islam, and that they would welcome tolerance both in Egypt and Iran sphere of thinking.

Ahmadinejad answered to al-Azhar official that Iran and Egypt had agreed on unity and brotherhood, when the official claimed that they had discussed Sunnis’ problems inside Iran.
Al-Azhar spokesman emphasized that Egyptians would not accept any assault to Iran, and that “we support Tehran’s position on Zionist regime.”

“Iran and Egypt have discussed the efforts to end crisis in Syria based on people’s will,” the Spokesman said.
