Ahmadinejad: Iran’s Independence Sets Role Model for World Nations

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed reliance on a nation’s own abilities to achieve self-sufficiency can serve as a proper role model for independent nations in their confrontation against the hegemonic powers’ unfair pressures.

Inspired by Iran, all world countries have now believed that if a nation decides to stand on its own feet and do things itself, it will succeed, Ahmadinejad said after inaugurating several industrial and development projects in Yazd province on Saturday.

“Today, we should increase the speed of the country’s construction because building Iran is the wish of late Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader,” he noted.

“Today Iranian experts are implementing the biggest projects in the shortest possible time,” he said, stressing the need to rely on domestic talents and capabilities.

In June, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei praised the resistance shown by the Iranian nation against the enemies’ plots and conspiracies, and said that the country has become a role model of resistance for the other nations despite all enemy efforts.

Addressing a group of Iranian officials, Muslim envoys and representatives here in Tehran at the time, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the Iranian nation’s honor and might are a clear example of the outcomes of resistance.

The leader pointed to the world arrogant powers’ collaboration on confronting the Islamic Republic, and stated, “In the past 33 years, our wise nation and our dear country have been subjected to non-stop conspiracies of all the world powers which tried to, if possible, prevent Iran which is a live example of resistance and progress from becoming a role model in the other nations’ eyes.”

“But” the leader said “the efforts of all the hegemonic powers to push the Iranian nation out of the scene will definitely and surely remain futile again this time.”

In similar remarks, a top Iranian military commander lauded the remarkable achievements made by Iran’s young experts as well as the nation’s resistance against the world powers, and said the country now has a major say in the world equations.

“Iran is now a mighty, free and advanced country and no political and economic equation in the region and the world can be solved without Iran,” IRGC Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami told reporters.

He lauded the great achievements made by the Iranian youths in space and missile fields, and stressed that the country’s youths have been able to “bring Islam and the West into a power balance”.

Iran has been pushing an arms development program in recent years in a bid to reach self-sufficiency. Tehran launched its arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran, to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own jet fighters and armored vehicles as well as radar-evading missiles and other high-tech weapons.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country’s military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.
