Ahmadinejad raps UN poor performance

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has lashed out at the United Nations for its poor performance, reiterating that the international body must meet the “real demands” of nations.

The United Nations must pursue ways to strengthen the identity and prestige of nations and meet their demands, President Ahmadinejad told reporters at John F. Kennedy International Airport upon his arrival in New York Monday night local time.

“The United Nations must observe the least,” he added, IRNA reported.

The Iranian chief executive stated that the UN is currently under the control of those countries victorious in World War II and noted that other states have to obtain a visa from the US administration to come to the UN, while the United States itself is also a member of the UN.

President Ahmadinejad stressed that countries should have the opportunity to access the UN as an international body and demand the rights of their nations.

The Iranian president travelled to New York at the head of a high-ranking delegation to deliver a speech at the 66th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly about the Islamic Republic’s stance on latest international developments.

Iran’s chief executive will also hold talks with senior officials of countries participating in the UN session. He will meet Iranian nationals, university students and professors while speaking to reporters and taking part in press conferences.

President Ahmadinejad will also present participants in the UN meeting with a five-volume book series that includes documents on the occupation of Iran during World War II.

The Iranian president is in New York for the 7th time since he took office in 2005.
